Wellington and District

Get Involved

The young people we support are exciting, fun and full of potential. We want to create a dynamic environment for these, and want to increase the range of activities we can offer them to help them experience life in all its fullness.

We are open minded about the sorts of things that can be offered, and want to be able to offer opportunities that are as diverse as our residents! Wherever possible we want our young people to have experiences that promote skills such as teamwork, managing emotions, tolerance, positive self-image, forward planning, respect and problem solving. Volunteers don’t need experience of working with groups or young people as staff will be on hand to provide support and guidance.

We also have paid vacancies come up from time to time, please take a look at our vacancies

All staff and volunteers require an enhanced DBS check.

General Volunteers

Are you looking to help us in a more general capacity?

Volunteering with YMCA Wellington and District isn’t only about running workshops with our young people. Your time can benefit our residents in a host of other ways.

  • Can you help us run our stall at local events?
  • Perhaps you are able to offer a few hours to help us maintain our garden area?
  • Are you able to collect donated furniture for us to use in our flats and bedsits?
  • Do you have painting and decorating skills we could put to good use?
  • Maybe you’re brilliant at fundraising and can help us raise money to use to fund activities for our residents.

Activity volunteers

Wellington and District YMCA are looking for volunteers who have a passion or interest and would like to share their love of this with our residents.

Perhaps you’d like to come and share your skills and knowledge in:

  • Sports
  • Hair and beauty
  • Fire safety
  • DJ-ing
  • Cooking and baking
  • Circus skills
  • Drawing and Art
  • IT
  • Gardening
  • Jewellery making
  • Film making

Or something completely different!

Community Ambassadors

  • We need your help in gathering support from the local community.
Take every opportunity to tell others about Wellington and District YMCA’s work with homeless young people, what we do and how they can help.
  • Help increase support for Wellington and District YMCA’s fundraising events and other public events such as Love Where you Live days etc. As the need in Telford for support of homeless young people grows, fundraising events are becoming more and more vital in helping us to reach more disadvantaged people.
  • You may also like to organise and run Fundraising Events. We will be happy to assist you in this.

Corporate assistance

We are looking for companies who want to support our work through sponsorship or other partnerships.

  • Can you offer work experience or apprenticeships?
  • Do you have staff who would like to mentor a young person?
  • Could you sponsor an activity?
  • Have you got equipment you could donate to us?
  • Could you hold a fundraising event?
