Peter's Story

When Peter originally moved into YMCA Wellington and District, they were supported by a colleague before transitioning across to a new worker in February 2024. Since having a male worker, Peter has responded positively and has progressed well.

Since joining YMCA Wellington and District, Peter has held down their licence and sustained stability in their housing.

Support work with Peter has included cleaning their property, supporting them to maintain their licence agreement and helping them to clear their debt.

Peter was supported to apply for and enrol on a college course. Although they had previously struggled academically, they have held down their placement and have begun conversations with college around attending for a second year on a Level 3 course, with the plan to go on to university to study fine art.

Peter’s engagement can be sporadic at times, but they have responded and worked with their support worker to progress. Their engagement has been like a roller coaster, with ups, downs and twists.

There have been a few bumps in the journey with Peter, including being served notice and further incidents. However, Peter has worked well to turn these around and try to learn from their mistakes to avoid similar situations in the future.

The biggest barrier for Peter has been their concentration levels, which are a side effect of their health condition.
