Support for survivors of Child Sexual Exploitation
The Holly Project is a free, independent support service for survivors of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) and their families. Run by YMCA Wellington and District, the service supports people with a connection to Telford and Wrekin.
Led by people with lived experience of CSE, either directly or through supporting a family member, The Holly Project offers a safe, confidential and judgement-free space for people affected by CSE to access support, advice and understanding.
The service was created because survivors and families needed somewhere they could speak openly with people who truly understand the trauma, impact and long-term effects of CSE. The Holly Project helps survivors rebuild their lives, explore what recovery and justice mean to them, and move forward with hope for the future.
How The Holly Project can help
Support is shaped around each person’s needs. For some people, this may involve crisis or complex support. For others, it may include practical guidance, emotional support, advocacy, creative activities, or help accessing other services.
The Holly Project works alongside other organisations to make sure victims, survivors and families can access the right support at the right time. The service can also provide a natural transition for people who have been supported through the CATE pathway and still need support as they move into adult services.
Who are the Holly Workers?
Holly Workers are lived-experience Child Sexual Exploitation specialists and qualified safeguarding officers. They bring more than seven years’ experience of working with victims, survivors and families, alongside their own understanding of the local area and the realities of CSE.
Their lived experience gives them a unique insight into the fears, worries and support needs of people affected by CSE. They use this understanding to empower, validate and support each person in a way that feels safe and respectful.
Training and awareness
Alongside direct support, The Holly Project delivers training and awareness sessions for local organisations and professionals. These sessions help people understand the signs of CSE, the impact it can have on every part of a person’s life, and how to better support victims, survivors and families.
The Holly Workers have also been active campaigners within children’s safeguarding, protection and women’s rights, using their voices and experience to help create change.
